First Training & Taster Sessions 2017

Hello,

FIRST SESSION OF 2017/18  FOR ALL MEMBERS - MONDAY 2nd OCTOBER!

  • Give It A Go

This year we're running 4 taster 'give it a go' sessions that are open to all! If you've never fenced before but want to see what it's like to stab people for fun or you've fenced a little many years ago and have forgotten the basics, our Give It A Go sessions will give you a brilliant introduction to the sport!

Join us in a group warm up, then our coach & dedicated beginner's officer will take you aside to show you the basics: how to put all the layers of kit on, footwork, how to hold a foil, attack, lunge and parry!

We provide all the kit, just bring water & wear trainers and long trackies/jogging bottoms. If you're wanting to take your fencing skills further, there's an opportunity to join our 6-week beginners course - check out the information here.

Click the dates below to buy your £3 ticket from the Cardiff Students Union website:

Mon 2nd Oct 17:30-21:30

Fri 6th Oct 19:30-21:30

Mon 9th Oct 17:30-19:30

Fri 13th Oct 19:30-21:30

Everyone attending is also warmly invited to our regular post-training food & drink stop at the Blackweir Tavern afterwards!

  • New & Returning Intermediate/Experienced Fencers

Our main Uni sessions run twice every week at Talybont Sports Centre, Mondays 17.30-19.30 & Fridays 19.30-21.30 (Courts 5 & 6) starting from Monday 2nd October 2017. Sessions are open to all - with beginner's initially taken aside by our Beginner's Officer & professional coach for the beginner's course.

We've got plenty kit if you need to borrow anything. If you're a team member, there will be opportunities for one-to-one training with our dedicated professional coaches throughout the year. Feel free to attend one session a week or both, whatever suits your timetable!

On Wednesdays 13:00-17:30, we have Court 6 available reserved for weekly BUCs matches (check the the upcoming fixtures - supporters always appreciated). If there's nothing going on, captain's may use this time for team training. If you're in need of some more fencing, members are kindly welcome to spar at the Russell Swords Fencing Club on Mondays 19:30-21:30 (sabre), Tuesdays 19:30-21:30 (foil) & Thursdays 19:30-21:30 (foil/sabre/epee). We've got a group set up to help organise lifts to the salle. Fencing every day of the week!

There's plenty of information scattered around this website (including our new club calendar) and on the cardiffstudent.com website.
